The two part conclusion of our series on idolatry. We examine how long this problem has been with us, how deeply engrained it can be from youth, and other factor that encourage it in us along life's journey.
Erecting and bowing before statues isn't the old way worship idols. The prophet Ezekiel spoke to those who had "Set up idols in their hearts." We'll study the scriptures to see how idols are set up in our what and what some of those heart idols are.
Eph. 4:32 says, "And be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you." Then we are told to imitate God "as beloved children" and told grow towards maturity together.
In this short lesson, we look at the maturity we are supposed to be moving towards and our relationship with those who are trying to do the same.

Our second lesson on idolatry. In this lesson, we look at the gospel call away from idolatry and the teachings given to flee from it and abstain from it. Christ not only calls us TO Him, but AWAY from these defiling things.
God said not have other gods or make idols. Israel did both. Often. Actually, almost always. We begin our study of idolatry with their history of unfaithfulness.
How do we accomplish the righteousness of God? The book of James tells us that it is not by anger.
Let's look at the most basic question of salvation: What are we saved from? Who saves us? Saved to do what? Why?
Jesus's enemies challenged Him to destroy or harm Him. His friends didn't do this, but challenged, exasperated, and angered Him at times anyway. We study how they did this and how He responded. And what we should do when we do this to each other.
Jesus was often challenged by those who opposed Him. Here we study not just how they did it so that we can recognize similar challenges presented to us, but also how Jesus responded, so that we can do likewise.
I find the most amazing thing not that Jesus walked on water -- the gospel is presented to get us to believe that He rose from the dead and is the son of God -- so of course hHe can walk on water. No, the amazing thing is that Peter can do it too. Study with us how what Jesus empowered Peter, and all His followers to do.
