A brief look at Paul's instruction to Timothy to "flee youthful lusts" but instead to "pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace."
In Deuteronomy 10 Moses tells us what God requires: that we fear, love, serve and obey Him. Why? Because of His greatness, compassion and works. The same things hold true today.
Our gospel meeting continued as Cloyce to points us to Deuteronomy 9 to show that Israel was so far from righteousness on our own that it is folly even to pretend that they got the Promised Land on their own. They received it by grace, just as we do all the good things God gives.
Our gospel meeting continues as Cloyce tells us of how God led the children of Israel. What were they to learn and how did God teach them?
Ou gospel meeting continues as Cloyce shows us from Deuteronomy what God expected of His people and it was good for them to do that for their own sake, as well as to His glory.
Looking again to God's instructions to the Israel from Deuteronomy, Cloyce examines Ch. 6 in to see what principles and practices were can learn to implement to successfully rear our children in an ungodly age.
Sometimes we take a long time to do what should be easy. A lot of times it's our own fault and we actually set up the road blocks that hinder us. This is what Israel did on the wilderness journey.
A repost of the second sermon on Idolatry part 5 so that it will appear properly in the podcast feed.
The two part conclusion of our series on idolatry. We examine how long this problem has been with us, how deeply engrained it can be from youth, and other factor that encourage it in us along life's journey.
Erecting and bowing before statues isn't the old way worship idols. The prophet Ezekiel spoke to those who had "Set up idols in their hearts." We'll study the scriptures to see how idols are set up in our what and what some of those heart idols are.
Eph. 4:32 says, "And be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you." Then we are told to imitate God "as beloved children" and told grow towards maturity together.
In this short lesson, we look at the maturity we are supposed to be moving towards and our relationship with those who are trying to do the same.
From the "All-In" pagans to those who are seduced unsuspectingly into idolatry, to those who try to blend it with some devotion to God, we find that there are many ways to be taken away from true and pure devotion to God. Study this with us in our third installment on idolatry.
Our second lesson on idolatry. In this lesson, we look at the gospel call away from idolatry and the teachings given to flee from it and abstain from it. Christ not only calls us TO Him, but AWAY from these defiling things.
God said not have other gods or make idols. Israel did both. Often. Actually, almost always. We begin our study of idolatry with their history of unfaithfulness.
How do we accomplish the righteousness of God? The book of James tells us that it is not by anger.
Let's look at the most basic question of salvation: What are we saved from? Who saves us? Saved to do what? Why?
Jesus's enemies challenged Him to destroy or harm Him. His friends didn't do this, but challenged, exasperated, and angered Him at times anyway. We study how they did this and how He responded. And what we should do when we do this to each other.
Jesus was often challenged by those who opposed Him. Here we study not just how they did it so that we can recognize similar challenges presented to us, but also how Jesus responded, so that we can do likewise.
I find the most amazing thing not that Jesus walked on water -- the gospel is presented to get us to believe that He rose from the dead and is the son of God -- so of course hHe can walk on water. No, the amazing thing is that Peter can do it too. Study with us how what Jesus empowered Peter, and all His followers to do.
Repentance is one of the first things preached in the gospel. John the Baptist, Jesus, and the apostles all preached, "Repent" first of all. Study with us about why this was done, what needed to be changed most of all, and the three parts of full repentance.
