The apostle Paul reminds the brethren that Abraham had a son by the flesh and a son by God's promise. He then makes application from the facts of that situation to speak of those of the law compared to those of the gospel.
Paul was separated by persecution from the Thessalonian brethren. He was so glad to hear a good report of them via Timothy and rejoiced before God.
