In this sermon we examine what the inspired wisdom of the Proverbs. What power words are said to have for good and ill and their weakness to change facts and compel others. Finally, we look at the quality and origins of goods words.
We take the scriptures to be credible and applicable to us. What is they are not? What do we lose without believing in a credible revelation from God? What happens to the "sola scripture"? To the statement of Jesus who took the scriptures as credible? What happened to belief in the harmony of the scriptures? What inevitably replaces our belief in the scriptures if it's lost?
We examine the ways that unbelievers use worldly wisdom to attach the trustworthiness of the scriptures. How they deny the supernatural of it and question the authorship of the it mostly because they don't like the moral restrictions found in it.
To understand why we take the Bible as our total authority in matters of faith and religion, we begin by examining what the Bible claims for itself. It is says that it is God-given (inspired) and sufficient and to answer the most important questions of life. And finally, it claims to be the standard of judgment.
